Lunch: La Taza de Oro

Living in a city like New York, our lives fall into routines that take us to the same neighborhoods, eating the same foods and shopping in the same stores more often than not. We may explore on a regular basis, but our lives have constraints that usually bind our movements to some extent. I've found recently that changes in these routines, voluntarily or otherwise, can lead to the discovery of some very interesting gems.

I came across La Taza de Oro in the fall when I started taking a class on the History of Photography at Pratt's Manhattan campus. Before spending three hours in class, I had to find something to eat and this happened to be right near the 14th Street train station.

The sign in the window, above explains the set up at La Taza de Oro. Each day there's a different selection of menu items, listed in English and Spanish. There's all sorts of delicious

I mostly stuck to the pork products, not surprisingly. The pernil was always wonderful and every now and again they'd throw some chicharonnes on top. I don't find myself in that area often enough and it's not really conveniently located enough for even a long lunch, but I hope to find a reason to stop in there again soon.

I want to thank you Clay. This site is wonderful, and so are you. I am the conductor from the train. I will be trying these dishes. This is wonderful for two reasons and you know the other. Thank You Very Much. I will share this site with my friends. They are burners, you know what that means. Whenever we get a chance to cook and bring it in, it always well received. Thank you for this fresh incite.
