DC: The Ride Home or "See What Had Happened Was..."
No, that's not the bus.
I know I had said I was going to try taking the bus down to DC and back. The plan had been to try Bolt Bus down and maybe try Mega Bus back up. Now, had I been committed to that idea, I suppose I would have bought bus tickets back home earlier.
As it was, I didn't try until 10am, Sunday morning. Sadly, both Bolt and Mega were sold out. I was torn up about it. Really.
Our only obvious answer was taking the train.
I'm going to try my best to avoid ranting at this point, as I have already gone on about the poor poor quality of our domestic rail travel. Suffice it to say that it was going to take 2.5 hours and cost $278 to take Amtrak up to NY one way for the two of us.
I was about to click the purchase button when Tammi said, "Damn, that's as much as a flight would cost!"
That wasn't true. Actually, it was more than a flight cost by $50 and longer than the flight was supposed to take by 2 hours.
I say supposed to because air travel is never so precise. In fact, we managed to fly from DCA to JFK in exactly and hour.
How ridiculous. We flew out half an hour after our train would have left and we were home and eating dinner an hour before we were supposed ot have arrived at Penn Station.
It's a sad state of affairs.
